Stroke or brain attack is the number one cause of a long term suffering in adults and number three cause of deaths in the world. Total deaths are 6 times that of T.B. and 22 times that of Malaria. One out of every six people suffers from stroke in his or her lifetime. In case of India, the chances are 4 times higher than that of our western counterparts. Condition of life of a major stroke survivor is worse than death.
Despite availability of revolutionary modalities of treatment, most patients are unable to get right treatment at the right time because of poor public awareness about prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of stroke. Lack of proper treating infrastructure and trained manpower is another major issue. Hence there is a dire need of a comprehensive stroke program for society.
